Self taught programmer?

·
Created the first tic tac toe in C during my primary schooling. There is a reason why i graduated as a software engineer. I have been practicing it for such a long time😉. Personally, have huge respect for self-taught programmers even though your data seems anecdotal.
I agree to the fact that, there are some vagabond programmers who are better than one with a computer science degree. That percentage is too low. Anyone with an average intelligence can learn programming. Doesn’t matter if you are self taught or a professional. Here are some pointers or nuances that runs common among all the programmers .
  1. What you do with your time matters.
  2. Your problem solving skills makes a difference.
  3. Your passion & obsession counts.
  4. When you are lost & you don’t lose hope until you see it through.
Then there is this special breed. Here are their traits.
They do it coz they like it not coz they have to. These ones are rare & absolute geniuses that makes all the difference. They code frameworks & fundamentals. They make OS, interpreters & compilers. They create algorithms that serves a higher purpose. They basically create concepts & design patterns & not a fan of following them.
Their reputation follows & they are well recognized in software industry. Believe me, most of them has computer science degree & they did graduated from MITs & other highly regarded institutions.
And now talking about the vagabonds. They are the lost ones who either didn’t had time to visit college or their dreams were so intense they have to drop out of college to make it a reality. Bill gates & Zuckerberg belongs to that category. They are not drop out per se, their passion forced them to think beyond college education. They knew what to do with their life waaay early before graduation.
There are no shortcuts when it comes to programming. Only practice perfect your skill😉🙃.
Muchas Gracias
